See What Future Rock Star Talon Has to Say About Coding!

Meet Talon, a fantastic maker from Brisbane, Australia. He’s eight years old and already has big plans for his future – he aspires to be a rock star and an app designer!

When Talon’s not in his 4th-grade classroom or busy coding, he’s practicing Taekwondo. In fact, he just achieved a blue belt! We caught up with Talon to learn more about him and what motivates him to create his amazing projects.

What’s your favorite subject in school? Coding because it’s fun!

How did you feel when you found out your project had been featured? Very excited and shocked!

How did you get introduced to Tynker? My dad said I needed to start learning to code and we found Tynker.

How long have you been coding? Two years on and off.

How did you learn how to use Tynker when you were first starting out? Trial and error! If something wasn’t working I would try something else.

How do you get inspiration for your projects? Looking at the community pages for ideas and random thoughts that jump into my head.

How do you use your creativity when you code? I come up with a story or game idea in my head and I just make it!

Why do you like to code? It’s fun and cool to see the finished project!

What is your favorite project you’ve made so far? The Pokémon Game, because it was fun to make.

“the pokèmon game”

Is there anything you’re planning to make next or currently working on? I’m doing more advanced tutorials to get better, and I’m making a Pikachu game!

What do you do with a project when you’re done with it? I publish them if they are good.

What’s your favorite feature in Tynker? You can make almost anything that you can think of and play it at the end!

Do you ever Tynker with your friends? Yes, I have a few friends that play, but I work on their accounts.

Do you look at the Tynker community projects? Yes, they’re awesome!

How do you think learning coding now may help you in the future? It will help me be able to get a job in the app design area or some other part of IT.

Do you think other kids should try coding? Yes, it’s super fun to create cool games and have ideas turn into games!

What advice would you give to kids starting out with Tynker? Do the tutorials – they are great at the start!

What’s a fun fact about you? I am a twin, but my brother is so different from me!

Talon’s mom Bev thinks it’s fantastic that he’s learning to code! She told us, “he loves to code and he is always talking about something he’s wanting to make. Tynker is a “fantastic program for kids to learn and create. [It provides] wonderful opportunities for kids to do something amazing.”

In Bev’s opinion, coding is important because “It’s the way the world is moving these days and coding is part of most people’s lives now.”

Learning to code with Tynker has benefitted Talon in ways beyond the computer screen! As Bev told us, coding “has helped him in almost every area of his life! Coding has helped with his schooling and he has a better understanding of English and math. He even enjoys reading coding books.”

It’s great to hear that Talon’s coding skills are having a positive impact in other areas of his life! Thanks for speaking with us, Bev and Talon. We can’t wait to see what you come up with next!
