Featured Maker: Sofilia Likes To Play the Piano! 

Meet our newest Featured Maker, 4th grader Sofilia from Indonesia! When she grows up, she has a list of great careers to choose from—pianist, programmer, architect, and artist. All of them are fantastic choices! Sofilia recently spoke with us about her experience coding with Tynker:

How did you hear about Tynker?

My Dad introduced me to Tynker about 2 years ago, and that’s my first time learning coding.

How did you learn to use Tynker?

I just followed the lessons in Tynker and tried to make some code. My favorite is Ada’s Adventure.

Have your coding skills improved since you started using Tynker?

My projects are getting better.

How did you feel when you found out your project had been featured?

So happy!

What’s your favorite project you’ve made so far?

Car Track Run is my favorite one because it works well, and I like it!

Where did you get the idea for the project?

I like playing with cars, and it took about 2 weeks to make.

How do you get inspiration for your projects?

Most of them are car games because I like to play with cars.

Why do you like to code?

It’s fun to see how my code blocks work!

What’s your favorite way to use code?

My favorite way is to use the blocks ‘Broadcast’ and ‘When I Receive’ blocks.

What do you do with a project when you’re done with it?

When I make one, I try to play it, improve it, then publish it. Sometimes I ask my dad to play it.

What’s the best thing about Tynker?

It’s fun!

Do you think learning to code has prepared you for the future?

I think I want to be a programmer.

Do you think other kids should try coding?

Yes, they should because it’s fun and they can become good programmers.

What advice would you give to kids starting out with Tynker?

Just start learning and get better every day.

What’s your favorite subject in school?

Javascript because I like to code. Math because it’s fun.

Bonus: What’s a fun fact about you?

I like to play games and make games!

I am amazed at what she can do with Tynker and how she’s improved. She likes to show me her new game creation and asks me to play it.

I think coding helps her in math, design, and computational thinking.

Coding will help her develop problem-solving skills, creative and critical thinking.
