Featured Maker: Ivanna Plays The Piano!

Meet our newest Featured Maker, 5th grader Ivanna from Mexico! She can play the piano, but she also likes to paint, draw, bicycle, act, design clothes (and robots), and play tennis too. Amazing! Ivanna spoke with us about her experience coding with Tynker:

How did you get introduced to Tynker?

It’s a subject in our school, and we use that because, well, everyone loves it! And I’ve been coding for like three years!

How did you learn to use Tynker when you were first starting?

My teachers made tutorials for all of the class. And, we learned from them and she started putting in easy levels and then hard levels!

Have your coding skills improved since you started using Tynker?

I first started to make characters just move or talk, and now I’m doing broadcast and forever. So, I think I’ve improved a lot!

How did you feel when you found out your project had been featured?

I felt impressed, and I didn’t know what to do so I asked my mother and she said she was so happy!

What’s your favorite project you’ve made so far?

The super tricky game or the baker cake.

Where did you get the idea for your project?

I got the idea from some apps. When I go outside and I find something weird I just put it in there.

How do you get inspiration for your projects?

Maybe by some silly words my sister says. I can convert them into real life.

Why do you like to code?

I like to code tricky games, and now I think they’re cool.

What’s your favorite way to use code?

The when I receive code block and the broadcast block when they meet together. You can touch anything to make another actor move is so cool.

What do you do with a project when you’re done with it?

I first show it to my parents, and then I publish it.

What are you planning to make next?

I don’t know, maybe another baking, or I want to make another game to refresh, like old super old people memories for them, like, the brain to turn on again, and for them to remember lots of things!

What’s the best thing about Tynker?

I think the best thing about Tynker is that, like, you can make your projects. And also, it’s super fun in the courses to teach you. And I like when you make one project, there’s like a little Cody, like on the corner. And you draft a cool book if you don’t know what it means, and he’ll tell you everything about that cool blog. That’s super, super cool.

How do you think learning to code has prepared you for the future?

Well, I want to be a scientist. So, when you mix mathematics with chemistry and code I think you can make something!

Do you think other kids should try coding?

I think if they like to and they want to because it’s very impressive to see all of your projects, and then see how you’ve been improving and maybe they’ll like it, and make a future based on coding!

What advice would you give to kids starting out with Tynker?

Maybe to continue doing it, even if you fail or if you don’t understand anything. Ask someone, or search on the internet!

Do you have an idea of what you want to be when you grow up?

I’d like to be an athlete or an actress, a singer, or a scientist,

What’s your favorite subject in school?

Science, because you can learn many things like inside something you can’t see, or very, very little stuff, like on the inside of those little stuff and I think that’s awesome.

Bonus: What’s a fun fact about you?

I eat a lot of candy!

Ivanna’s mother, Lillian, spoke with us about her daughter learning to code with Tynker.

I feel very proud. And when I told my friends or relatives that she will have an interview, everybody wanted to know more. To know more about Tynker and coding and start putting it to their kids to code. My brother and I want to learn how to code, and he tried to download the app. We found it very surprising and impressive.

I’m very proud of her. And she’s an amazing girl! She has learned to think in other ways. So it’s pretty awesome that she managed those skills, and she can learn to think outside of the box, and coding helps a lot with that.

What benefits do you think coding has for Ivanna?

Memory, creativity, a lot of skills, I think math. I think the skills to solve problems.

Do you feel that she’s better prepared for the future?

Yes, for sure. It’s not just for me to tell you. When I tell my friends and my relatives that I will even have an interview, everybody was interested to know coding because that’s the future. So download the app and start learning because this is very important to know that that’s the future. So, it is pretty important that all the kids know about coding.

Thank you!

We want to thank Ivanna and her mother for taking the time to speak with us about coding with Tynker. We can’t wait to see what Ivanna creates next – HAPPY CODING!
