Tynker – Coding for Kids: Alexandra’s Favorite Subject in School Is Math!

Meet our newest Featured Maker, 4th grader Alexandra from Hamilton, New Zealand! She likes math because she can use it for basically everything, and she likes solving problems. Cool! Alexandra recently spoke with us about her experience coding with Tynker.

How did you get introduced to Tynker?

I think dad found it, and I started in 2020.

How did you learn to use Tynker?

I started with the courses. My favorite is Glitch Manor.

Have your coding skills improved since you started using Tynker?  

They’ve improved quite a lot.

How did you feel when you found out your project had been featured? 

Happy.

How do you get inspiration for your projects? 

Sometimes it’s about what’s happening around me, or sometimes I just come up with a random thing.

Why do you like to code?

Because it’s just fun.

What’s your favorite way to use code? 

I like the on-start blocks.

What do you do with a project when you’re done with it?

I normally publish it and then show it to my sister.

What’s the best thing about Tynker?

I like Tynker Summer Code Jam.

Is there anything we should add to Tynker? 

Not really. I think it’s pretty good.

Has learning to code prepared you for the future? 

I could make websites easier.

Do you think other kids should try coding?

Yes, definitely. I think it’s just a really good skill to have.

What advice would you give to kids starting with Tynker? 

​​Just start out with the basics. And once you learn the basics, you can start building up to a higher level. And then when you get the hang of it, you can just start doing more stuff.

What are some of your hobbies?

I like inline skating, badminton, and running.

It’s really fascinating to see how much she’s progressed. I think keeping them doing coding as a fun thing is really important so if they’re interested they’ll continue doing it. I think Tynker has done a really good job for a beginner and helping them progress. So, we’re really happy.

What benefits do you think coding has for her?

It’s definitely an essential skill for the future.
