Connor’s Projects Are a Hit in the Tynker Community!

When Connor is not in his 4th grade class, you can find him gaming and programming! Ten-year-old Connor, who is from Ohio, particularly enjoys Minecraft. He has big dreams – in the future, he’d like to work for Sony.

While he has lots of great projects in Tynker, one stands out for the amazing accomplishment associated with it. Connor created a Tynker project that hit 300+ likes! We’ve been wowed by Connor’s projects, so we reached out for a chance to speak with him about his creations and why he loves coding with Tynker.

How did you feel when you found out your project had been featured? I was really proud of myself!

How long have you been coding? I first started when I was eight.

How did you learn how to use Tynker when you were first starting out? Programming day and night!

Did you use any Tynker courses or tutorials to learn to code? I mostly figured it out on my own.

How do you get inspiration for your projects? I use another website for coding and I find a lot of good ideas for programs there.

How do you use your creativity when you code? Well, sometimes I just don’t know where to start! Most of the time I draw my own characters.

Why do you like to code? To have something that I can make myself!

What is your favorite project you’ve made so far? Cookie Clicker! It surprised me that it was so popular, that it got so many likes. Connor’s dad pitched in, saying, “He was sitting there hitting refresh the rest of the day!”

“Cookie Clicker” Check out more of Connor’s projects here!

Is there anything you’re planning to make next or currently working on? I’m thinking about making a second one with zombies and 3D graphics!

What do you do with a project when you’re done with it? I just post it and see how many likes it gets!

What’s your favorite feature in Tynker? I like that I can make my own graphics!

“Invasion defenders alpha”

Do you ever Tynker with your friends? I code on my own, but my brother wants to try it out.

Do you look at the Tynker community projects? Yeah! I like the detail.

How do you think learning coding now may help you in the future? Maybe I’ll be able to make a revolutionary robot.

Do you think other kids should try coding? Yes!

What advice would you give to kids starting out with Tynker? Use the coding tutorials that people make. Those would probably help.

Connor’s dad Jordan is “really excited” that Connor is learning to code! He has an IT background himself, and thinks “it’s very important! We’re getting more and more into a technology lifestyle and somebody has to make the applications.”

For Jordan, learning to code builds a lot of skills, such as the ability to “thinking things through,” as well as “logical thinking.”

Definitely – learning to code helps kids develop all those skills and more! Thanks for speaking with us, Connor and Jordan. It was great to meet the programmer behind the amazing projects. Keep coding!
