Add Coding to Any Subject with Tynker’s STEM Courses

Computer Science doesn’t need to be taught in its own separate classroom. You can integrate coding across the curriculum with Tynker’s STEM courses, now with over 200 lessons on topics like metaphors and similes, order of operations, fractions, the water cycle, mitosis and meiosis, and much more.

The library includes English, Social Studies, Math, Earth Science, Life Science, and Physical Science lessons on elementary and middle school topics.

Each STEM lesson walks students through how to make a project about something they’re learning in school with step-by-step instructions. At each step, it encourages them to make their project unique and interesting, emphasizing that coding is a creative medium much like writing or drawing.

The Benefits of Adding CS to Your Curriculum

Allowing students to make a project in Tynker to demonstrate their knowledge is a great way to encourage creativity and appeal to students with diverse interests. Using code, students can create interactive book reports, engaging demonstrations, and lessons to teach others what they’ve learned.

After only six lessons of any Tynker programming course, students are ready for all of the STEM lessons. Teachers love using our STEM lessons because they can incorporate Computer Science into what they’re already teaching.

Changes to the STEM Library

We’re expanding the STEM lesson library significantly, with more projects being added every week. If you currently have a Tynker school or district license, you’ll have access to the new projects as they are released.

We now have so many projects that we are starting to segregate them by grade level and package them into courses to help teachers find the lessons that they are interested in. For math, for example, there are now two STEM courses. The elementary course for grades 3-5 covers topics like multiplication tables, identifying shapes, finding areas, multiplication, and fractions. The middle school course for grades 6-8 covers topics like the coordinate plane, finding averages, multiplying negative numbers, percentages, and probability.

What’s New?

Here are some of the projects that your students can make with Tynker STEM courses.

1. Learn about antonyms by making a matching game. In this example, you can drag words from the bottom to their antonyms at the top. When students make their own matching games, they can choose any topic or subject. They could match elements to their element symbols or fractions to equivalent fractions.


2. Create a moving model of the Solar System. Students can do research on each planet and add a pop-up window whenever a planet is clicked that tells you more.


3. Make a quiz game to demonstrate your understanding of a subject. This project tests the player on how to simplify an expression using the correct order of operations. Students can add multiple questions and give custom responses to incorrect answers.
