Presidents Day was created to honor George Washington, the first president of the U.S., whose birthday was February 22, 1732. However, it is also a time to celebrate all American presidents and learn about the history of this country! Additionally, many use this holiday, like Veterans Day and Memorial Day, to honor American veterans – in fact, it is Washington’s face that appears on the Purple Heart medal, an award for soldiers injured in battle.

For this Presidents Day, you can incorporate coding into your American history class with this fun project! Students will follow step-by-step instructions as they construct a trivia game based on a president of their choosing. They’ll combine their artistic and coding skills with outside research on a president. And when they’re done, each student will have created a unique game. Students can try each others’ games to learn something new about history!

Start Tutorial

Teachers, to assign a project to your class:

Log in to your Tynker account.

Click on the “Start Tutorial” button above (in this blog post) to open the project.

Save the project to your account.

Go to your “My Projects” section.

Hover over the project you want to assign and click the “Assign+” button.

After your class has finished, don’t forget to create a class showcase of all your students’ projects to share with parents.

Parents, to give a project to your child:

Have your child log in to his/her account.

Click on the “Start Tutorial” button above (in this blog post) to open the project.

Save the project.

If your students or children use the Tynker app for iPad, they can find this project in the “Seasonal Projects” folder in the Tynker Workshop.

We love to see what kids are making!
