This course and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tynker.com\/school\/courses\/show?id=12-javascript-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">JavaScript 1<\/a>, our recently released JavaScript course for schools, help students transition from block-based coding to mainstream text programming languages. Python 1 allows your students to gain confidence with text coding as they learn programming fundamentals and Python syntax.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Explore_Python_1\"><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tynker.com\/courses\/python-1-jungle-run-adventure\">Explore Python 1<\/a><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tynker.com\/courses\/python-1-jungle-run-adventure\">Python 1<\/a> is divided into three sections to build students up from the basics to building their own games in Python:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Part 1<\/strong>: This first section introduces <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tynker.com\/parents\/curriculum\/python-fundamentals\/\">Python syntax and programming logic<\/a> through a series of puzzles. In these puzzles, kids learn important Python programming constructs like \u201cdo-while\u201d loops, expressions, and variables.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Part 2<\/strong>: Students\u00a0are introduced to\u00a0turtle graphics with\u00a0open-ended coding tutorials\u00a0where they create simple programs that gradually introduce new concepts that they\u2019ll need to build more advanced games.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Part 3<\/strong>: Students\u00a0bring together everything they\u2019ve learned to create some awesome games, like Connect 4, Snake, Tetris, and Pong.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_Students_Learn\"><\/span>What Students Learn<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>At the end of Python 1, kids are able to\u00a0program their own games starting from\u00a0nothing\u2013this includes setting up a\u00a0turtle screen, keeping track of game state and variables, implementing the game logic, creating their own graphics, and much more. They&#8217;ll be comfortable with the Python language and text-based languages more generally. They understand how to use commands to write their code and they&#8217;ll learn the importance of indentation in Python.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, Python 1\u00a0reinforces other school subjects, like geometry and algebra, in a way that is fun and relevant.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Recommended_Prerequisites\"><\/span>Recommended Prerequisites<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Python 1\u00a0is best for students\u00a0who have already done at least one Tynker course using our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tynker.com\/parents\/curriculum\/coding-proficiency\/\">block-based coding language<\/a>. They should be familiar with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tynker.com\/\">coding concepts<\/a> and able to implement simple games in Tynker. This course builds on that knowledge while adding the challenges (and rewards) of text syntax.
