{"id":7681,"date":"2021-01-10T11:53:03","date_gmt":"2021-01-10T19:53:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.tynker.com\/blog\/?p=7681"},"modified":"2023-08-06T22:13:57","modified_gmt":"2023-08-07T05:13:57","slug":"a-coding-project-to-honor-mlk-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.tynker.com\/blog\/a-coding-project-to-honor-mlk-day\/","title":{"rendered":"A Coding Project to Honor Martin Luther King Jr. Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\">A Coding Project to Honor MLK Day<\/h1>\n<p>The third Monday of January is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, an American federal holiday to remember and honor the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a Civil Rights activist remembered for&nbsp;protesting racial discrimination and for powerful speeches like his &#8220;I Have a Dream&#8221; speech.<\/p>\n<p>For MLK Day, your students can learn about Dr. King&#8217;s contributions to this country by coding an interactive timeline of his life.&nbsp;Students follow step-by-step instructions that guide them through how to program their timeline. They&#8217;ll combine outside research and coding to create unique timelines that honor Dr. King&#8217;s life. Students with little to no coding experience will be able to complete&nbsp;this project.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<!-- iframe plugin v.6.0 wordpress.org\/plugins\/iframe\/ -->\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"\/ide\/embedded?p=5873c3ffaf92313b7c8b5e20&#038;controls=yes&#038;autostart=no\" height=\"350\" width=\"100%\" class=\"iframe-class\"><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a class=\"sf-button large accent standard \" href=\"https:\/\/www.tynker.com\/ide\/?p=5873d177af923101318b4831\" target=\"_blank\"><span class=\"text\">Start Tutorial<\/span><\/a>\n<p><strong>Teachers<\/strong>, all your students already have access to this project as a Daily Mission. In addition, you may also assign this project to your class:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Log in to your Tynker account.<\/li>\n<li>Click on the \u201cStart Tutorial\u201d button above to open the project.<\/li>\n<li>Save the project to your account.<\/li>\n<li>Go to your \u201cMy Projects\u201d section.<\/li>\n<li>Hover over the project you want to assign and click the \u201cAssign+\u201d button.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>After your class has finished, don\u2019t forget to create a class showcase of all your students\u2019&nbsp;projects to&nbsp;share&nbsp;with friends and parents.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Parents<\/strong>, to give this project to your child:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Have your child log in to his\/her account.<\/li>\n<li>They can find &#8220;Snowball Siege&#8221; as one of their Daily Missions!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>If your students or children use the <strong>Tynker app for iPad<\/strong>, they can find this project in the &#8220;Seasonal Projects&#8221; folder in the Tynker Workshop.<\/p>\n<p>We love to see what kids are making!
