In this article we\u2019re talking about creativity, the foundation of the 4 C\u2019s (creativity, critical thinking, communication, collaboration). <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What is creativity? Is it something people are \u201cborn\u201d with, or a skill set that can be developed? According to many experts, creativity is a set of skills that anyone can practice. Steps in the creative process include observation, asking questions, drawing connections, experimenting, and getting others\u2019 perspectives. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Observe\"><\/span><b>Observe<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When encountering any creative activity, it\u2019s important that we take note of details that are relevant to the problem we\u2019re trying to solve or task we want to complete. If you\u2019re painting a picture, it\u2019s important to be aware of the colors you have available to you and the effect different brushes have on the canvas. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Ask_questions\"><\/span><b>Ask questions<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Raise questions based on that data you\u2019ve gathered. Ask the \u201creporter questions\u201d: Who, what, where, why, when, how. \u201cWhat will happen if I combine red paint and blue paint?\u201d Form hypotheses based on what you think will happen.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Experiment\"><\/span><b>Experiment<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After you\u2019ve asked questions and formulated some ideas of what could happen next, it\u2019s important to try out your ideas. That\u2019s how you\u2019ll discover that red paint and blue paint mixed together makes purple paint. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Draw_connections\"><\/span><b>Draw connections<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Look at the data you\u2019ve gathered. What are the relationships between those pieces of information? How are they related to each other? Use your findings to help you come up with even more ideas: \u201cIf dark blue and dark red together make a dark purple color, these lighter shades of blue and red will probably make a lighter shade of purple, like a lavender color.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Get_others_perspectives\"><\/span><b>Get others\u2019 perspectives<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Listening to others\u2019 perspectives can help us see our challenge or task from a different perspective. \u201cWhat colors does my friend mix together? What happens when she mixes those colors?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"The_Tynker_Difference\"><\/span><b>The Tynker Difference<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tynker helps kids practice creativity at every step in the process.
