Alex is incredibly passionate about working with animals \u2013 when we asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up, Alex immediately answered that he has \u201ca lot of ideas, like a zoo-keeper, wildlife researcher, or veterinarian.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alex\u2019s enthusiasm is not limited to just animals \u2013 it also extends to creating with code. Alex uses Tynker as an outlet for his creativity, giving life to projects that represent what an animal\u2019s life may be like. This is a very artistic way to use Tynker! We chatted with Alex to find out more about his projects and inspiration!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What do you like to do outside of school? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I like to code, build with LEGOs, design mods, and study animals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What\u2019s your favorite subject in school?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> All of them, because I think learning is fun! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How did you learn to use Tynker when you were first starting out? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I still don\u2019t know what some of the blocks mean, but there\u2019s a feature on the app and website that tells you what the block is for. I used that to learn how to use Tynker. And I learned from watching my older brother!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How did you get introduced to coding?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> My older brother got me interested in it. I have been coding about a year. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Why do you like to code? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s fun! And I can make games that I like to play. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What is your favorite way to use code? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I like to use my creativity in my projects about nature to think about what might happen in real life, and then I code that into my projects. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Do you have a favorite code block? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I don\u2019t have a favorite code block, but my favorite feature is that you can learn what a block is by simply dragging when you\u2019re using a tablet or clicking when you\u2019re on a computer. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How do you get inspiration for your projects?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> My inspiration comes from nature and animals!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What is your favorite project you\u2019ve made so far?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Life of a Worm. I like how it has the real consequences if you were really a worm. <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<!-- iframe plugin v.6.0 wordpress.org\/plugins\/iframe\/ -->\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"\/ide\/embedded?p=5a7f8a581c36d148058b4573&#038;controls=yes&#038;autostart=no\" height=\"350\" width=\"100%\" class=\"iframe-class\"><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>&#8220;Life of a Worm&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><b>How did you feel when you found out your project had been featured? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Really excited!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What do you do with a project when you\u2019re done with it? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I publish most of them. Though some of them I don\u2019t really want to publish, because I\u2019m not happy with the way they turned out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Do you think other kids should try coding? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yes, because coding is fun and they can make games that they like too!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What advice would you give to kids starting out with Tynker? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Learn what the blocks mean, do the tutorials, and look at others\u2019 codes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We sat down with Alex\u2019s mom, Amanda, to ask her what she thinks about Alex learning how to code. Amanda said, \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019m very proud of him; he\u2019s made a tremendous amount of progress \u2013 both in coding abilities, as well as in his levels of patience and perseverance \u2013 since he started coding.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to coding abilities, there are plenty of other skills that coding impacts. Amanda has noticed this, saying, \u201cHis patience and perseverance have increased tremendously. He used to have a tendency toward perfectionism, even on his first attempt at something new. He expected to get things right the very first time. And if that didn\u2019t happen, he would get very upset and give up. Now, though, after several months of using Tynker, I see him staying calm and focused while seeing his project through until the end. No more tears over mistakes; he just says \u2018Well, that didn\u2019t work the way I had intended. I\u2019ll try a different way.\u2019 And then he continues to work on it until he\u2019s completed his project.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amanda supports Alex through all his endeavors! \u201cHe is given the opportunity to code every day. Also, when he shows me a code he\u2019s working on, I try to look for a new skill he may have learned since the last project he did and acknowledge his progress.\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Amanda told us that she thinks Tynker is a wonderful program and very glad that they found it. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When asked about how much better prepared for the future Alex is, she says, \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I do feel that coding is a great skill to have in our technologically-centered world. What I appreciate most from his experience is his ability to have more realistic expectations of his work and abilities, and have the perseverance to continue working through problems\/mistakes in order to complete the task at hand.\u201d Amanda and Alex both appreciate this process of learning because they know it makes them both better.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We can\u2019t wait to see what projects Alex will make in the future!
