She will be in the 7th grade in August and has a love of art, sculpting, and drawing. Rosalee really enjoys drawing dragons \u2013 especially animating their eyes! She is excited to spend her summer creating art and coding. We sat down with Rosalee and her mom, Laura, to find out more about our Featured Maker!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How did you get introduced to coding? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On our school\u2019s iPads they have this workshop called Tynker for the games, and when we finish our work we get to play the app! I like Tynker because you get to play games, like the projects where you press the button and you change the looks. I also like animations and the stories! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What are your favorite Tynker courses or tutorials? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I like the dragon one the most! I used that to learn because I meddled with it, played with it, and then started to see where that game was originally from. That\u2019s where I learned how to do the walking stuff, but I just stick to animation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How did you feel when you found out your project had been featured? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I was excited! That was my goal and I always wondered, \u201cWhat do I want to do that I like?\u201d Afterwards, I saw the user Purpleberry do a pet dragon thing, so then I thought, \u201cI like to do dragons and I can draw dragons really well,\u201d so I decided to make a dragon-maker. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How do you get inspiration for your projects? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I get my ideas online and I look up my quotes on the internet, too. I\u2019m not really good at drawing on the iPad, but I know how to draw dragons really well because I practiced a lot on them. I prefer drawing on paper!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<!-- iframe plugin v.6.0 wordpress.org\/plugins\/iframe\/ -->\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"\/ide\/embedded?p=5a8758e594e01dea538b456c&#038;controls=yes&#038;autostart=no\" height=\"350\" width=\"100%\" class=\"iframe-class\"><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>&#8220;Dragon maker&#8221;&nbsp;<i>Check out more of Rosalee&#8217;s projects&nbsp;<\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tynker.com\/dashboard\/student\/#\/community\/profiles\/5a00c8b276f293b7638b4737\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>here<\/i><\/span><\/a><i>!<\/i><\/em><\/p>\n<p><b>Why do you like to code? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Coding is really nice for me and it helps me get away from everything!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Do you have a favorite code block? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s this code block that I know really well \u2013 it\u2019s just repeating the phases over and over again. I like how they tell the stories, because they just make pictures, a little bit of coding, and then it\u2019s done! That\u2019s what I do for the animations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What do you do with a project when you\u2019re done with it? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I look at it a couple of times and see if I made a mistake or anything that I need to improve! After, I either show my friend Alex or some other friends, and then I\u2019ll publish it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What advice would you give to kids starting out with Tynker? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do your best and never give up!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rosalee\u2019s mom, Laura, understands that the future is in computers and is ecstatic that her daughter is getting a head start! \u201cComputers are becoming more and more a part of our lives,\u201d she said. \u201cTwenty years ago I didn\u2019t have a computer attached to my hip, and now I do!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Laura learned a little about programming and computers when she was in school, like the programming language Pascal. She knows that learning technological skills at a young age builds important skills and creates new opportunities. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt teaches them how to think logically,\u201d she said, \u201cthey have to go through it step-by-step, and if they skip a step, the computer program is not going to work the way they intended.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thank you for taking the time to speak with us, Rosalee and Laura!
