He lives in Oklahoma and&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">j<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ust turned ten \u2013 although he told us he feels like he\u2019s always been ten!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When Gabe isn&#8217;t working on his 4th-grade homeschool curriculum, he\u2019s squeezing video games into his schedule, raiding the fridge, or playing with his pet toads and frogs! We chatted with Gabe and learned more about him and why he loves to code.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Do you have an idea of what you want to be when you grow up? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I want to work with animals. Animals are my favorite thing! Frogs and toads are my favorite.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What\u2019s your favorite subject in school? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anything with animals!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How did you feel when you found out your project had been featured? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I didn\u2019t know what it was at first but then was like \u201coh jeeze!\u201d My game Undertail had a lot of likes, and I realized \u201cfeatured\u201d meant everyone on the internet\u2019s going to see it. I was like \u201cOhhhh yes!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How did you get introduced to Tynker? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Well, when I got my iPad I got Tynker! When I got my iPad and Tynker I was just playing the other games. Then I found out you could make your own games and I was like, \u201cOh, sweet!\u201d I pulled it up and was like, \u201cWhat\u2019s coding?\u201d I had no idea what coding was so I threw random code blocks and ended up with a person that just spins around, and now I\u2019m basically a coding master!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How long have you been coding?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A little over a year I guess.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<!-- iframe plugin v.5.1 wordpress.org\/plugins\/iframe\/ -->\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"\/ide\/embedded?p=5a80b548949b56b25a8b4569&#038;controls=yes&#038;autostart=no\" height=\"350\" width=\"100%\" class=\"iframe-class\"><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>&#8220;space defender!&#8221;&nbsp;<i>Check out more of Gabe&#8217;s projects <\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tynker.com\/dashboard\/student\/#\/community\/profiles\/5a637d845ae029b3038b459f\"><span class=\"s1\"><i>here<\/i><\/span><\/a><i>!<\/i><\/em><\/p>\n<p><b>How did you learn how to use Tynker when you were first starting out? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When I first started I had no idea how to code games so I just put pictures on there. It was just pictures with birds riding on them. Then I realized what coding is, and learned to code!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How do you get inspiration for your projects? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I basically just think of something. Like I look up and I\u2019m like, \u201cOh, a clock! I can make a game where you can travel in time!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><b>How do you use your creativity when you code? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I just get a picture, like a picture of a robot, and then I put pieces of code block that look like robot on it, and then I make it shoot lasers at you and stuff and make all sorts of different body parts on it that you can hit and make it lose health and stuff. That\u2019s one of the battles in my Boss Battles game.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<!-- iframe plugin v.5.1 wordpress.org\/plugins\/iframe\/ -->\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"\/ide\/embedded?p=5a8b371576f2936a628b457c&#038;controls=yes&#038;autostart=no\" height=\"350\" width=\"100%\" class=\"iframe-class\"><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><i>&#8220;boss battles!&#8221;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>Why do you like to code?<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Well, my favorite part is playing games that I made and showing them all around the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Is there anything you\u2019re planning to make next or currently working on? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most of my unpublished projects are really derpy, except one of them. The only reason it\u2019s unpublished is because I\u2019m still making it. It\u2019ll be my best game of all time. It\u2019s called Boss Battles. It\u2019s where you battle all types of different bosses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What do you do with a project when you\u2019re done with it? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I perfect it, publish it, and wait for the likes!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What\u2019s your favorite feature in Tynker? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I was really excited when Tynker released the Minecraft update. I saw Mythicraft is here and I thought \u201cOh boy, I can\u2019t wait to try that out!\u201d Now I have the Mythicraft update and the Minecraft update. I also make a lot of Minecraft stuff, mostly mobs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Do you ever Tynker with your friends? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nope, but my #1 friend gave me the idea for Toad Crusher! He didn\u2019t know how to code so he told me, \u201cI would code the toad to crush different types of games.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Do you look at the Tynker community projects? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yes, that\u2019s actually one part of how I get inspiration, but I\u2019m not saying I copy other people\u2019s games!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How do you think learning coding now may help you in the future?<\/b> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the future I want to make my own games \u2013 games as famous as Minecraft \u2013 that people can play on Xbox and stuff. &nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Do you think other kids should try coding? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Heck yeah!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What advice would you give for kids starting out with Tynker? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019d tell them what all the code blocks do.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When asked how she feels about Gabe learning to code, his mom Jessica <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">said, \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I think it\u2019s great! I\u2019m excited that he\u2019s super self-motivated, and I think that if he pursues it it could work out for him.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She continued with \u201cHe\u2019s either going to make a career out of coding or toads at this point.\u201d Gabe interjected, \u201cI\u2019m going to be someone who codes about toads! Coding for toads! I can make my own website where people can only code games with toads in them!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jessica told us that coding with Tynker captures and retains Gabe\u2019s interest! In her words, \u201cHis mind works in a way in that it\u2019s hard to satisfy. He likes a lot of stimulation and a lot of mental involvement, and for some reason, coding pacifies that better than anything else. He can dive into it and be content for a very long time. Before coding, it was hard to find activities like that for him.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For Jessica, it\u2019s important that kids learn to code. \u201cIt\u2019s just what\u2019s happening, and I think if you don\u2019t know anything about it, you\u2019re going to be left behind.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thanks for chatting with us, Gabe and Jessica!
