In his words, \u201cWhen you make a game there are a lot of possibilities, but when you play it you\u2019re limited.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Boyan, a 2nd grader from California, spends his free time drawing (he loves drawing his own characters in Tynker!) or practicing for an international math competition. In fact, he <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ranked 2nd in California and 6th in the US for his grade last year! We\u2019ve been really impressed with Boyan&#8217;s projects and had a great time getting to know him a bit. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What do you want to be when you grow up? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I want to be an architect.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What\u2019s your favorite subject in school? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Art!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How did you feel when you found out your project had been featured? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I felt good!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How did you get introduced to Tynker? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I was going through the app store and I found it! I already used other coding apps, so I knew how to use it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How do you get inspiration for your projects? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I usually just think up stuff while I\u2019m playing \u2013 I just think of ideas for Tynker. <\/span><b>&nbsp;<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<!-- iframe plugin v.6.0 wordpress.org\/plugins\/iframe\/ -->\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"\/ide\/embedded?p=5920606d76f293062d8b4572&#038;controls=yes&#038;autostart=no\" height=\"350\" width=\"100%\" class=\"iframe-class\"><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><i>&#8220;Tynker city&#8221;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>How do creativity and coding fit together for you? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I like making the character see the world from above.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Why do you like to code? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Because I like making my own games. When you make a game there are a lot of possibilities, but when you play it you\u2019re limited.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What is your favorite project you\u2019ve made so far? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s one that I haven\u2019t published yet. It\u2019s a platformer taken from Tynker, but I upgraded it by being able to zoom in the direction you\u2019re pointing. You\u2019ll also be able to walk freely around in it, without auto-scrolling. It\u2019s called Tynker City.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What are you planning to make next? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019m planning on making some more games with the knight character I put in the platformer game I made!<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<!-- iframe plugin v.6.0 wordpress.org\/plugins\/iframe\/ -->\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"\/ide\/embedded?p=596161d5949b561f688b456e&#038;controls=yes&#038;autostart=no\" height=\"350\" width=\"100%\" class=\"iframe-class\"><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>&#8220;Mario&#8217;s Adventure!&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><b>What do you do with a project when you\u2019re done with it? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I play it and see how good it is, then publish it. Sometimes when there are bugs, sometimes they actually turn out to be pretty cool. In the platformer there is a bug where if you press jump once and then quickly hold it, you can do a ground pound!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What\u2019s your favorite feature in Tynker? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Probably being able to draw characters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Do you ever Tynker with your friends? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s mostly something I do by myself! If I need help making them, my dad and I usually make them together.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Do you look at the Tynker community projects? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yes, some of them are really creative!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How do you think learning coding now might help you in the future? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If I make games in the future, or for working. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Do you think other kids should try coding? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yes, because it\u2019s really fun!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What advice would you give to kids starting out with Tynker? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Play most of the arcade games in Tynker \u2013 that helps you! I finished most of them \u2013 I did the Minecraft stuff \u2013 I just didn\u2019t beat all of them because they involve other stuff.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of Boyan\u2019s coding hobby, his mom Savina said, \u201cI love it! I\u2019m glad that he enjoys it.\u201d Boyan\u2019s father is a video game programmer, so \u201cit\u2019s sort of in his genes!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Savina made a great point about the value of the Tynker community. \u201cThe nice thing about Tynker is that he likes other people\u2019s projects, and then he can actually open them and see what code they used to generate what he liked about the project. Then he can borrow the same approach for his project, and by repeating it, better learn how it works.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When asked what skills learning to code helps kids develop, she said, \u201cThe main thing is logic, because you can use so many different languages these days and types of syntax. What helps you adapt to the different languages is the logic and the efficient coding that you learn.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Boyan told Savina that he didn\u2019t know about the &#8220;or&#8221; conditional block so he had a lot of &#8220;if&#8221; statements, and now he can create code in an &#8220;or&#8221; statement! It\u2019s great to hear that Boyan is learning to write more efficient code. Savina agrees, saying, \u201cIt\u2019s the logical thinking, the flexibility, the efficiency, the creativity \u2013 which is part of how you make the code efficient.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our favorite quote from Boyan\u2019s mom? \u201cI think these days, [coding] should be a mandatory course in school, because without coding you won\u2019t be able to do much in the future.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We couldn\u2019t have said it better ourselves!
