Ten-year-old Nathan is from Sulphur Springs, Texas, and his projects really impressed us. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Luckily, Nathan had a bit of time in between his cool activities to chat about why he likes to code and how he uses Tynker!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What do you want to be when you grow up? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019d like to be an inventor \u2013 that\u2019s why I started coding.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Why do you like to code? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I like to code because it gives me a fun way to make games, not just go onto an app. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How did you feel when you found out your project had been featured?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> I was like, \u201cOh my gosh! I\u2019m featured!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<!-- iframe plugin v.6.0 wordpress.org\/plugins\/iframe\/ -->\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"\/ide\/embedded?p=59c829035ae029286f8b4574&#038;controls=yes&#038;autostart=no\" height=\"350\" width=\"100%\" class=\"iframe-class\"><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Fidget Spinner 2.0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><b>How do creativity and coding fit together for you?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> I love building things \u2013 I have more than 10,000 Legos. For example, I didn\u2019t have a fidget spinner so I made my own! I saw the ones people made on Tynker \u2013 that\u2019s why I made my game.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How do you get inspiration for your projects? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019ve seen a whole bunch of fidget spinner games, and they spin when you tap it, until forever. They never stop spinning, so I was inspired to create a game so you could stop it when you didn\u2019t want it to spin. I also added different varieties of fidget spinners. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What is your favorite project you\u2019ve made so far? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During Code-A-Thon, Week 4, I created a game to help the community, where you had to go and pick up the trash and put it in the trash can, put the recycle into the recycle bucket, you had to clean up the river, you have to help a tree live by swiping around a car&#8217;s gas. I did all the Code-A-Thon projects. Every day I\u2019d be like, okay, week 4\u2019s over, then I\u2019d be like finally, week 5 is here! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What do you do with a project when you\u2019re done with it?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> I make sure everything\u2019s exactly as I\u2019d like it to be, sometimes I rename it, and I hit publish! I click play and make sure that everything\u2019s working right and that no actor is acting funny because that\u2019s happened before!<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<!-- iframe plugin v.6.0 wordpress.org\/plugins\/iframe\/ -->\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"\/ide\/embedded?p=597bca07949b56e9778b4568&#038;controls=yes&#038;autostart=no\" height=\"350\" width=\"100%\" class=\"iframe-class\"><\/iframe>\n<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Your Day Job pt. 1<\/em><\/p>\n<p><b>How did you get introduced to Tynker? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At school, our teacher gave us free time, so I found this app and thought, \u201cOh, this is for coding? I have a coding game, but maybe this one\u2019s better.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How did you learn how to use Tynker? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I kind of figured out on my own what the new bricks were supposed to do!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Have you played through any Tynker courses? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019ve done the dragon one and the space one. I liked the dragon one better because it was more complicated. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>How do you think learning coding now will help you in the future? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I think it\u2019ll help me when I\u2019m trying to make robots. I could use this because Tynker is now pairing with devices. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What advice would you give to kids starting out with Tynker? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019d say, make sure you know what the blocks do before you use them!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What\u2019s a fun fact about you? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I do commercial acting! One time we were told that I needed to be a background extra for a pizza commercial! They gave us pizza and a drink, naturally, and they didn\u2019t ask us which pizza was our favorite because I got a Veggie Lover\u2019s Supreme! Good thing I was blurry because I was just in the background picking off all the veggies, hiding them under my plate!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nathan\u2019s mom Melissa is \u201creally excited that Nathan gets to code!\u201d She told us that \u201che\u2019s expressed an interest in engineering and in robotics.\u201d She thinks \u201cit\u2019s really going to help him because everything is going toward computers, so he\u2019ll need to know how to use them.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While she doesn\u2019t have any coding experience herself, she supports her son\u2019s endeavors! In her words, \u201cNathan really wants to be an engineer, and specifically, he\u2019s talked about being a structural engineer, so he wants to work on architecture and designing building plans.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Melissa said that while Nathan has tried other coding programs, they \u201cdidn\u2019t allow for a lot of creativity and personalization,\u201d and that \u201cTynker allows him to be creative.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thanks for speaking with us, Nathan and Melissa!
