Have An Incredible Hour of Code with BYJU’s Coding Cup!

Is your classroom ready for Hour of Code? With the world’s largest sporting event – soccer’s World Cup – starting November 20, we’ve got the perfect activity for you! Inspired by BYJU’s official sponsorship of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™, Tynker has launched BYJU’S Coding Cup, the game that explores coding in an all-new way.

Meant for Grades 3-12, this totally FREE coding competition is designed to help every kid see themselves in the world of computer science as they code and apply problem solving and critical-thinking skills.

Here’s the big idea. When students play a match in BYJU’S Coding Cup, they don’t control their soccer team with a joystick or game controller. . . Instead, your students’ teams run with the code that THEY write!

Go for the goal!

If you just can’t wait to dive into this cool coding game, keep on reading.

Design and Customize Teams

Students first design and customize their three-member team. They can change how each player looks, design a uniform and logo, and give their team a unique name, too!

Make a team that’s all yours!

Train their Teams

To get started, students train their players. They’ll learn the basics of logic and coding so they can write their own custom logic using visual programming blocks. Don’t worry, they will start with the basics!

Complete training to see all your moves!

See the Class Leaderboard!

When students enter the arena, they’ll face off against other coders from around the world. Teachers can also set up competitions for their classroom, using Tynker’s convenient classroom management tools.

As students win or lose, they’ll get matched against players of the same skill level. Every player starts with a ranking of 1500 points, then wins or loses points depending on their team’s results. Looking for an edge? They can replay matches from the Leaderboard and look for opportunities to improve their players’ code. Have them complete Advanced Training or read the free strategy guide for more tips and tricks.

Students can check the leaderboard to see how they’re doing.

Improve their Teams

Programming players in BYJU’s Coding Cup is as simple as drag-and-drop. Students create a script, then watch the results of their program being acted out immediately. Have them invent their own team strategies to win!

Does the Game Teach Coding?

Yes! Forget a boring textbook — students will watch their code come alive!

BYJU’S Coding Cup is a turn-based game, which means that kids are exploring key computer science ideas of conditional logic and selection. In other words, coders must write programs that select the correct action, depending on the conditions of the game! Advanced coders will explore ideas like cartesian coordinates, debugging, digital logic, lists, and much more.

By combining the world of sports with computer science, this activity is sure to inspire an all-new generation of coders. Find complete teacher resources here, including Teacher Guides and Answer Keys!
