Featured Maker: Saffi’s Favorite Subject in School Is Art!

Meet our newest Featured Maker, 4th grader Saffi from California! Her favorite subject in school is art because she likes mixing colors and using her artwork to express her feelings. Saffi recently spoke with us about her experience coding with Tynker.

How did you get introduced to Tynker?

My mom downloaded the app for me to play with. I’ve been coding for about one and a half years.

How did you learn to use Tynker?

I started out by taking the courses and following the tutorials. My favorite course is Candy Quest.

Have your coding skills improved since you started using Tynker?

I have learned how to use different coding blocks to create fun games such as a dress-up game, maze game, as well as useful tools such as a metronome, music maker, etc.

How did you feel when you found out that your project had been featured?

I was very happy, amazed, and proud of myself.

What’s your favorite project you’ve made so far?

My Bunny Dress-up project. I like it because I used a different way to code it. With this new coding method, players can tap or click to put on the clothes and accessories instead of dragging them onto the bunny.

How do you get inspiration for your projects?

I get inspiration from holidays and projects from other coders.

Why do you like to code?

It’s fun, and I can create different cool games and useful tools.

What’s your favorite way to use code?

I like the When I receive code block. I like to use code to create games.

What do you do with a project when you’re done with it?

First, I show it to my family to test it and provide feedback. Then, I debug or improve based on the feedback. And finally, I publish the projects to the community to enjoy.

What are you planning to make next?

I am trying to make an iPhone simulator.

What’s the best thing about Tynker?

I can code very fun projects. It is easy to use and learn.

Has learning to code prepared you for the future?

One of my dream jobs is to become an app designer. Learning how to code can help me prepare for my dream job.

Do you think other kids should try coding?

Yes, because you can have fun and learn at the same time.

What advice would you give to kids starting with Tynker?

I would recommend them to start with the courses. It is very educational and resourceful. It’s easy to follow as well.

What do you like to do outside of school?

I like drawing and Tynkering.

What do you like about art?

Creating fascinating artworks. In art, there is no right or wrong way to draw. I can draw the way I want.

Do you have an idea of what you want to be when you grow up?

Yes, I want to be an oceanographer, astronomer, or app designer.

Bonus: What’s a fun fact about you?

I have a little brother who also likes to play Tynker!
