Featured Maker: Aamira Wants To Be A Scientist!

Meet our newest Featured Maker, 3rd grader Aamira from Minnesota! She wants to be a scientist when she grows up because she likes doing experiments and building machines. And, she also likes to draw! Aamira talked with us about her experience coding with Tynker:

How did you get introduced to Tynker?

So I was on my sister’s iPad and I just found this app, and I went on to like a bunch of stuff on it and I wanted to do it!

How did you learn to use Tynker?

I really like Minecraft so I found this Minecraft skin editor thing and did it and drew all over the place!

Have your coding skills improved since you started using Tynker?

Yes! I got better at using if/true blocks and if chosen!

How did you feel when you found out your project had been featured?

Excited! I told my mom, and we told my teacher!

What’s your favorite project you’ve made so far?

Nyan Cat because it makes a bunch of kitty cat noises!

Where did you get the idea for your project?

I got the idea from the community board, and it didn’t take me long to make!

How do you get inspiration for your projects?

Things that I find funny!

Why do you like to code?

It’s fun creating something and then watching it come to life on the screen!

What do you do with a project when you’re done with it?

I just publish it immediately!

What’s the best thing about Tynker?

That you get to learn multiple stuff!

How do you think learning to code has prepared you for the future?

I think it will help me when I become an adult!

Do you think other kids should try coding?

Yes, because they can have fun and learn!

What advice would you give to kids starting out with Tynker?

Just start slow and work your way up!

Bonus: What’s a fun fact about you?

I like wolves!

Aamira’s mother, Robyn, spoke with us about her daughter learning code with Tynker:

I like that she’s able to do it and see her creation move and come to life and see other children watch her creations. It’s been a real confidence booster for her.

How do you support Aamira’s coding endeavors?

She’s been drawing basically on the tablet. I really haven’t seen her drawing much on paper so I guess we’re saving trees that way! And just support her in anything she wants to try.

What benefits do you think coding has for her?

To take criticism. Not everybody’s gonna like your project. Patience with learning how to fit the code in different places. And hopefully she continues with it.

Do you feel that Aamira is better prepared for the future?

With the coding, yeah. She’s just got endless potential with it now.

Thank you!

We want to thank Aamira and her mother for taking the time to speak with us about coding with Tynker. We can’t wait to see what Aamira creates next – HAPPY CODING!
