Can Your Kids’ Screen Time Be Creative?

The holiday season is upon us, which means families will gather to eat, drink, and hopefully be merry. Meanwhile, our kids will gravitate to their computers like never before. As parents, you understand. The weather is awful outside and there’s nothing on TV. Plus, you’re busy. So, why not give the kids a little screen time?

Their cousins are in on it, which means their aunts and uncles can probably relate. However, their grandparents will never quite understand: Why won’t the kids put their computers down and talk to us? And what are they doing that’s so important on that thing anyway? Unfortunately, the answer to that question is typically, Nothing.

Luckily, Tynker can help. We’re throwing a HOLIDAY SALE on coding courses, which are not only a productive use of kids’ screen time but an endless source for their creativity, while giving them the confidence to see a project through.

These skills are an open-ended ticket to discover what’s possible and one day maybe even practical. And with the ability to code under their belt, kids will have the keys to a wide range of jobs in the future.

For kids, this is the best time to begin coding. Like a foreign language, code is best learned early. Once kids are fluent in the type of thinking required to break down and solve coding problems, the transition to other more advanced coding languages is relatively straightforward.

Tynker’s courses are as fun as they’re informative, which is where creativity abounds. At Tynker, our aim is to constantly raise the bar in an ever-growing tech industry.

With that in mind, there’s always time to get creative with Tynker:

Minecraft Code-A-Thon

In 2019, Tynker hosted a Minecraft Code-A-Thon. This year’s theme was Biodiversity, so we focused our coding challenges on habitats around the globe, from the Great Plains of North America to the forests of Africa! 8 summer weeks of kids learning about the amazing species on our planet while using not just their critical thinking—but their creativity—to code. Check it out!

NASA

We also partnered with NASA for one of our Moon 2 Mars Challenges!

micro:bit

And we added 2 Microbit courses for kids interested in building robots or designing their own video games.

Hour of Code

Tynker’s Hour of Code continues, allowing kids to create for social good! We are proud to host a series of projects that drive students to develop solutions for global issues based on the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals.

60 Million Kids

With over 60 million kids worldwide learning to code using Tynker’s self-paced courses, the possibilities to create are infinite. Coding teaches problem solving, organization, math, storytelling, designing, and more as it becomes a must-have skill in the 21st century tool set.

So, this holiday season, get your kid coding with Tynker and soon they’ll be sharing all the amazing projects they’re working on with the whole family.
