Fall in Love with Coding for Valentine’s Day!
Happy Valentine’s Day from Tynker! We’ve created some fun new coding projects for your students to try for Valentine’s Day. Whether your students are new to coding or are already pros, they’ll enjoy creatively coding their own projects and games for the occasion. All our activities have step-by-step instructions that make it easy for kids to build and customize the projects.
Beginning students can start by building “On Cloud Nine” an awesome platformer game to reunite Codey with his sweetheart Recursula. After this, students can code “Valentine’s Card,” a fun interactive card for a friend or family member. For an extra challenge, students can try “Spread the Love,” another very popular Valentine’s Day coding activity.
On Cloud Nine (Beginner)
Use the arrow keys to navigate Codey through the platforms and get to Recursula. He’ll need to use power-ups to shrink and grow to get to the end. Students start with a partially completed game that they need to debug to make it winnable!
Valentine’s Card (Intermediate)
Students can create their own custom animations to make a sweet note for a parent or friend. They’ll choose someone in their life and customize the card for that person. When they’re done with the project, encourage them to actually share their card!
Teachers, to assign a project to your class:
- Log in to your Tynker account.
- Click on the “Start Tutorial” button above (in this blog post) to open the project.
- Save the project to your account.
- Go to your “My Projects” section.
- Hover over the project you want to assign and click the “Assign+” button.
After your class has finished, don’t forget to create a class showcase of all your students’ projects to share with parents.
Parents, to give a project to your child:
- Have your child log in to his/her account.
- Click on the “Start Tutorial” button above (in this blog post) to open the project.
- Save the project.
If your students or children use the Tynker app for iPad, they can find “Valentine’s Card” and “Spread the Love” in the “Seasonal Projects” folder in the Tynker Workshop. “On Cloud Nine” is not available on the Tynker app.
